The year 2050 is the main reference point for the aviation industry as it works towards achieving European sustainability goals. To achieve progress by that date, intermediate milestones must be defined to scale up the development of necessary sustainable propulsion technologies and new aircraft concepts. The Environmentally Friendly Aviation for All Classes of Aircraft (EFACA) project defines a series of roadmaps that take into account technologies, aircraft, and environmental impacts, such as emissions, noise, and local air quality. This presentation outlines the methodology followed in the EFACA project to develop roadmaps for climate-neutral aviation. To this end, the presented analysis is structured into four parts: i) The analysis's objectives and the main challenges to be considered, ii) The scenarios defined by the EFACA project framework and considered in the analysis, including its proposed technologies and the design of two aircraft, iii) The stages of the methodology, its main objectives, and considerations and iv) Key variables for developing the roadmap and a comparison of the EFACA project with other sustainable aviation research alternatives.
