The ECCOMAS Arts & Science Contest promotes the beauty of scientific research. We invite participants to the WCCM-ECCOMAS Congress to share images and visualizations emerging from their work: a simulation snapshot, an experimental image, a mathematical structure, or even the unexpected elegance of a “buggy” result. Whether poetic, surprising, or simply beautiful, your image can inspire new viewpoints and spark conversation. The competition unfolds in two stages: a first online phase, where submitted images are shared on ECCOMAS, IACM and Congress LinkedIn pages and voted on by the community, followed by a final on-site round during the Congress. The two winners will be announced during the Congress and will be awarded with a free participation to a IACM Special Interest Conference, ECCOMAS Thematic Conference, or short course in 2027.

The NGCE Career Lunch is an interactive networking event designed to support early‑career researchers as they plan the next steps in their professional development. In an informal lunch setting, participants will join small‑group discussions with scientists at various career stages and gain valuable insights into topics such as:

• Career strategies and opportunities for young researchers
• Challenges within the academic and scientific work environment
• Balancing professional and personal life
• Preparing for interviews and evaluation processes

The Career Lunch will take place during the regular congress program. Spots are limited and allocated on a first‑come, first‑served basis. Registration is required — lunch is included!

Get ready for a night where science meets storytelling, and research takes center stage in a whole new light!

The WCCM-ECCOMAS 2026 Science Slam will take place on 20 July 2026 at Löwenbräukeller – Das Original in Munich. The event invites researchers—especially early-career scientists—to present their work in a way that’s engaging, accessible, and maybe even a little funny.

The evening will be hosted by Dr. David Fußhöller, a biomedical scientist, Head of Science Communication and Outreach at the Bonn Cluster of Excellence ImmunoSensation³, and an award-winning science slammer. With extensive experience as a moderator and science communication trainer, he brings both expertise and energy to guide the audience through an entertaining and inspiring program.

Whether you're a slammer or part of the audience, expect a relaxed, lively atmosphere filled with surprising insights and a fresh perspective on computational mechanics and applied mathematics.

For potential slammers:

If you enjoy sharing your research with a broader audience and have a flair for turning complex ideas into clear, captivating, and entertaining stories—this is your moment. We’re looking for presenters who can spark curiosity and laughter while staying true to the science.

Participation is free of charge for selected slammers, and no additional registration fee is required. Selected participants will also have the opportunity to take part in a dedicated training session before the event.

For the audience:

Come cheer on your colleagues, learn something new, and enjoy an evening of science with a twist. The participation fee for audience members is €25, but this already includes not only access to the event, but a full Bavarian dinner experience including food and drinks. Arriving in Munich for the congress already on Sunday? Join the NGCE Pre-Congress City Quest and discover the city while getting to know fellow conference participants. In teams of around five people, you will take part in an app-based quest through Munich’s historic center, solve fun challenges, visit famous landmarks, and test your knowledge of ECCOMAS and IACM along the way. It is a great opportunity to meet new people, explore the city, and start the congress week in a relaxed and interactive way.

The quest starts near Marienplatz, the heart of Munich, and finishes at Königsplatz, just in time for the congress welcome reception. The winning team will receive a small traditional Munich prize — plus, of course, glory and honor.

The 16th ECCOMAS PhD Olympiad will be held during WCCM–ECCOMAS 2026.

The ECCOMAS PhD Olympiad is an annual event showcasing outstanding PhD theses defended in the preceding year within the ECCOMAS community.

Each affiliated National or Regional Association of ECCOMAS is represented by one PhD thesis submitted for consideration for the two ECCOMAS PhD Awards. The local Olympiad organizers oversee this process, including determining the total number of participants and inviting the selected candidates.

Participants will present their work in dedicated PhD Olympiad sessions during WCCM–ECCOMAS 2026. An Evaluation Committee will select the two best overall presentations. The assessment is based solely on the quality of the presentation, as the scientific content of the theses has already been evaluated during the ECCOMAS PhD Award selection process.
