A common approach in LES simulations is to rely on the filtering implied by the numerical discretization. However, this implies that the unresolved scales are not independent on the adopted numerical scheme. Indeed, the presence of such a numerical filter affects the definition of the unresolved scales. Consequently, a turbulent closure that is unaware of the underlying numerical method is potentially suboptimal. Starting from these considerations, the present work formulates a LES closure aware of LDG discretization in the framework of the viscous Burger equations.
