Assessment of the acoustic performances of the new aircraft designs and their impact on environment within the fleet, airport and single flight scenarios are performed in EFACA project. For the environmental factors analysis and assessment, the Vehicle-Airport-fLeet-DESign (VALDES) Space/Platform was constructed with Aircraft Design & Flight Performance Platform (ADFPP) at the bottom level1, airport air traffic scenario at EFACAport (like CAEPport in ICAO and GREENport in EU contexts) – at the middle, and global fleet – at the top levels of the VALDES predefined limitations. For better understanding of the comparison between the baseline and reference acoustic models the clear difference should be defined between the specific acoustic sources in their aircraft/engine design and how new noise reduction technologies (NRT) should be implemented to make the novel designs quieter. ADFPP provides an iterative process in novel aircraft designing using the portfolio of available NRT for the dominant acoustic sources to be declined in new aircraft and engine designs and the designing loop should be repeated until the design converges. At airport stage the estimates of aircraft noise levels are performed for the Noise-Power-Distance (NPD) data recommended by ICAO standard and used from the EASA ANP data base for the existing aircraft. For the new baseline aircraft the NPD and fight path data are calculated with detailed look on dominant acoustic sources in reference and baseline aircraft designs, where the sources in baseline aircraft should be improved for their noise exposure reduction by implanting the available technologies2. EFACAport scenario is produced for airport noise exposure and LAQ analysis grounding on layout of Gdansk airport (a regional airport with dominant contribution in traffic of both reference aircraft in EFACA project research). Such a multi-level approach in AN exposure and impact assessment – beginning from the aircraft design with implemented NRT balanced with fuel burn and emission reduction technologies till the fleet-level assessment of their efficiency – may provide the better understanding of the roadmap to strategic goals defined at EU Green Deal Directive (2021) and ACARE Fly the green deal (2022).
